This month I've been reading these lovely library books,
Love Notes for Freddie - Eva Rice
I really like Eva Rice's writing, Love Notes for Freddie is similar to her other books. I love the retro setting, and that it features characters from one of her other books (The Lost Art of Keeping Secrets). I think her writing is all dream-y and vintage-y.
Nimona - Noelle Stevenson
I think Nimona is my favourite graphic novel ever. Everrrr. It's funny and sweet and awesome and you should definitely read it!
Going Vintage - Lindsey Leavitt
Mallory finds a list made by her grandmother in the early sixties and in the aftermath of a public social media breakup with her boyfriend, she swears off modern technology and tries to complete grandma's list. I really got into this YA novel, it's cute and sweet.
Bodies of Light - Sarah Moss
All the way through reading this I found it really disturbing and kept saying I didn't like it. But now I've finished it I can't stop thinking about it! From the cover, it sounds like this book will be a lovely story about Victorians and Suffragettes and Pre-Raphaelites, but it's not really. I've ordered the follow up!
I loved Bodies Of Light, such a thought-provoking book. Her second novel, which pre-dates Bodies... is also amazing, and explains what happens to the sister in Scotland. It's called Night Waking.
ReplyDeleteOh thanks, I'll add that to my list :)
DeleteOh they look good! I have read and enjoyed Eva Rice's the Lost art of keeping secrets so i'd love to read Love notes for Freddie and Going Vintage sounds fun. I will have to hunt them out. :)
ReplyDeleteHoe you enjoy them if you find them! Eva Rice has done a couple of books I've really liked (the other is The Misinterpretation of Tara Jupp)
DeleteOh il have to look out for that too.:)
DeleteNice short and sweet reviews (wish I could do this but I just ramble on hence why I stopped doing them!). Oh YES, the secret island with Jack, Peggy, Nora and Mike!??!?! That was brilliant- they were so resourceful selling the mushrooms, strawberries and blackberries from the Uncle's old farm, getting the cow to swim, skinning the rabbits (sorry, I know you're vegan but it was very resourceful for kids!). That IS one brilliant place, I had forgotten about it!!
ReplyDeleteI have to make a real effort to write something short about books, otherwise I ramble and give the plot away!
DeleteAnd Yesssss The Secret Island! I'm glad you remember it too :D I spent soo much time thinking about how I'd sustain myself on that island, I'm sure it's affected me as an adult!
(apart from the killing rabbits bit! :D
