Charity shopping.

I love charity shopping, here's some lovely things I've been buying...

Charity shopping. A charity shop haul blog post from second hand blogger secondhandsusie.blogspot.com #charityshopping #charityshophaul #secondhandfirst

I have many small niblings, and I'm only buying secondhand or eco friendly presents this year, so this lovely hedgehog on wheels, that looks brand new, will be going to one of them for their birthday this year.
Hedgehog on wheels, £3, local hospice charity shop.

In the same vein, I picked up these lovely games for between £2 and £3 pounds each, they're in really nice condition (apart from the counting game is missing one yellow hoop!), so will be played with or given to the niblings.
Children's games and puzzles, £2-3 each, local PDSA charity shop.

I LOVE these shoes!  They were £15 including postage from eBay, they're soooo cute!

My mum gave me this super lovely beaded food cover from the charity shop she volunteers in.  I'll use it on my jug of juice in the garden in the summer.
Beaded food cover, present, local Oxfam shop.

My mum's husband volunteers in a different charity shop, and he kindly picked up this air dry clay for me - what can I make with it?!
Air dry clay, present, local Salvation Army charity shop.

I try to resist crafting materials, as I have so much, and I haven't actually had any motivation or inspiration to craft for a while, but I couldn't walk past this fabric for £1 a piece, or these scrabble-style letter tiles, I'm sure they'll come in handy, either for me, my Rainbow guides or for crafts at work!
Fabric, £1 each, local Sue Ryder charity shop.  Scrabble tiles, 75p, local hospice shop.

Charity shopping.

I'm trying to stop so much stuff coming into my house, but sometimes I can't resist!

My mum gave me this, I assume it came from her charity shop, I LOVE it!
Le Parfait jar, present, local Oxfam shop.

I usually by the mustard colourway of this crockery, but I couldn't resist this because it was super duper cheap!
Kilncraft Midas bowl, 25p, local Samaritans charity shop.

I bought myself a jar of wooden beads.  I have a craft in mind for them where they'll become heads!
Jar of beads, £1.75, local Hope House charity shop.

Excuse this awkward photo of this item being held aloft, it was the best lighting I could get!  I was walking down the high street and this was outside one of the charity shops.  It didn't have a price and I paid a bit more than I'd usually pay, but the money goes to a good cause so I can't really complain.
Bamboo plant stand, £5, local Air Ambulance charity shop.

I fell down a bit of a nostalgic Hollie Hobbie internet hole last month, then searched for Hollie Hobbie on eBay, then found this and bought it and I have no idea what I'm going to do with it, but I really love it!

Charity shopping.

Technically, I haven't bought any of these things, they were all presents!

This is Oscar Gerald, he's been sitting in the charity shop window for weeks, unclaimed, until Joe bought him home for us after a particularly poopy week.
Kitsch kitten, 50p, local Age Concern charity shop.

My mum got me this awesome bit of vintage woven trim from her charity shop.

My Aunty Rose (not my biological aunty, but the lovely lady who I lived next door to for 25 years) passed away a little while ago and this is some of the stuff from her house that was deemed not good enough for the charity shop.  It's all a little chipped but I don't mind!  I love the Phoenix flowery dish and the snowflake Pyrex, and I just couldn't see all those glass dishes go to the landfill.  The big clear bowl is Pyrex and I'll use it for baking.  I've also made use of Aunty Rose's colander in the garden.

My Aunty Jenny (my biological aunty this time!) saved these from going into the bin at her charity shop up in Widnes.  There's several meters of woven garland, a little rug and whatever these pretty knitted thingys are.  There was loads more in the bag too, more knitted stuff and socks and gloves, I chose what I wanted and the other stuff went to my mum's charity shop, I believe to be sold by Oxfam at festivals.

Charity shopping.

Joe says he's noticed I keep putting things in bags and asking him to carry them away to the charity shop for me, but that I also keep bringing other things in other bags into the house from those same charity shops. Yep, that's just how it works round here I'm afraid Joseph, here are some things I've been buying from the charity shops recently (and I bet Joe hasn't even seen some of these yet!).

A charity shopping blog post from secondhandsusie.blogspot.com #charityshopping #thrifting #opshopping #retrocrockery

I walked passed the charity shop on my way to buy the paper for work and spotted a motherlode of blue retro crockery.  It was a Saturday morning and I was pretty sure it'd all be gone when I went back...but it wasn't!  I chose this little bowl because it's cute and I can probably pop a plant in it.
Retro bowl, £1, local Samaritans charity shop.

This was the only other bit I bought from all the blue retro crockery, which was obviously someone's lifelong collection.  I guess it's a casserole dish, or a serving dish of some kind.
Retro Midwinter 'Caprice' dish, £3, local Samaritans charity shop.

I have a really lovely 70s enamel pendant that I really would like to wear, but it's a big cross and I don't feel comfortable wearing it, so I set out to find something new and scored this on eBay.
Enamel necklace, £1.20 plus P&P, eBay.

I picked up this plate to pop under a plant, I'm always on the look out for retro crockery I can repurpose in the garden.

Charity shopping.

I haven't been blogging for a while, but I have been charity shopping!

Charity shopping, wherein I show you my new retro woven basket, pottery brooch, marbles and retro Christmas decorations. From UK charity shop blogger secondhandsusie.blogspot.com #charityshopping #thrifting #opshopping #secondhand

This little plastic woven basket had to come home with me.  It needs a good clean, but I think the best charity shop finds always need a good clean!
Retro woven basket, £2.49, local Age UK charity shop.

If you look carefully at this little pottery brooch you can see that there's little faces in it.
Handmade looking pottery brooch, £1, local hospice charity shop.

An obligatory 'you've found my marbles!' type joke was made by the shop assistant when I bought these and I managed to be polite and not groan.  I always buy marbles when I see them cheap in charity shops because I like to put them in the tops of my pot plants (inside and outside plants) as decorative mulch.
1.2kg jar of marbles, £1.25, local hospice charity shop.

Finally, I bought a selection of ornaments in the run up to Christmas.  I spotted the little wooden carousel in the shop window and had to run in on my lunch half-hour to buy it, all the others came in a £1 bag of decorations, mixed in with some modern stuff I gave straight back to the charity shop.
Carousel decoration, £1, local hospice charity shop.  Bag of decorations, cost £1 but kindly bought for me by my mum, local PDSA charity shop.

Charity shopping.

I keep going to the charity shops to buy new summer clothes, but I can't find anything right (I've had to go to eBay instead!).  I ain't mad though, because I've found loads of retro homeware instead.

Charity shopping. From UK charity shop blogger secondhandsusie.blogspot.com #charityshopping #charityshopblogger #tauntonware

There's a pound charity shop in town and how am I supposed to resist huge retro jugs I don't really need when they only cost £1!
Taunton Ware jug, £1, Sue Ryder.

I bought a couple of pairs of curtains too, I'm going to make a skirt (or a dungaree dress if I dare!) from the brown one because it's nice and cottony and soft, and the yellow and white ones will go up in the hallway when I've sewn them together to make one big front door sized curtain.
Brown curtains, £1, Sue Ryder, Yellow curtains, £2, Salvation Army.

These both count as plant pots because I'm going to use the bin basket as a plant pot too.
Ceramic planter, 99p, Oxfam, Basket, 50p, Air Ambulance.

Charity shopping. From UK charity shop blogger secondhandsusie.blogspot.com #charityshopping #charityshopblogger #SELCA #SELCAbeepot

This also counts as a plant pot, the bee on the lid has a broken wing, so I'll just use the base as a plant pot.  I don't actually need any more plant pots though.  This says SELCA made in Portugal on the bottom, I've googled it but I can't work out when this was made, but it's pretty anyway.
SELCA bee pot, £1, Air Ambulance.

My Mum picked me up these Doctor Who ice cube trays from the charity shop where she works.  They were originally from Lakeland's 50 years of Doctor Who collection, and I missed it when it was in the shops.  These were REALLY stinky (how much do you have to smoke to make your ice cube trays smoky??) but after spending about 4 months living in the dishwasher they smell fine and are ready to use.
Doctor Who ice cube trays, present from Mummy, probably from Oxfam.

I recently tidied up our conservatory and now it's lovely and clean it needs new cushions.  All the cushions I have in there at the moment are from my teenage bedrooms through the years.  I love this cushion cover, but it also reminds me of the cushions Mum had in the lounge when I was a teenager!
Crochet cushion cover, £1, Sue Ryder.

I spent more than I normally would on this because it's something I was actually looking to buy.  I don't really like kneeling in the garden because it hurts my knees, so I've bought this little stool to sit on when I've got weeding to do.  And if that makes me an old person I don't care, I'm happy with my weeding stool and my non-painful knees!
Retro stool, £8, Age Concern.

I don't think this is a bad lot for just over £15, I love charity shopping.
