I Found it by the Bins #1.

This big lantern was just sitting by the recycling bins, hoping someone would take it home.  So I did!  People are always leaving things by the communal recycling bins by my flat.  Sometimes it's just plain fly tipping, but sometimes there's treasure to be had!

I don't know whether to use the lantern as a mini-greenhouse and put a plant in, or decoupage the outside of the glass with a patchwork of retro fabrics and put a candle in.

Do you find yourself unable to walk past a likely looking bin or skip?  Or is it just me?!

  1. That's an awesome find! I've rehomed a couple of kitchenwares from the old skip that use to be our bin back when we lived in an apartment - dishes, trays etc.

    1. I'm glad I'm not the only one who has to rescue things from skips/bins!

  2. Ooooh what a great find Susie :) yes I have an incredible urge to dive in when I see a bin or skip hahahaha much to my families embarassment. I do try to apply the one in one out rule though otherwise my home gets filled with stuff.

    1. I try to do one in one out too, it doesn't always work though! I'm glad I'm not the only one who has urges around skips and bins! :)

  3. Wow I can't believe someone was going to throw that away it looks like its in perfect condition! I have something like that in my bedroom but mine is black. It had a candle in it and was the center piece at a wedding I went to. I kept the candle in mine but I love your mini-greenhouse idea!

    1. It is in perfect condition, I've found things by those bins still in their original packaging with the price tags on (I quite often collect them up in a bag and take them to the charity shop, otherwise the perfectly good stuff left there gets ruined by rain/cats, I seem to be the only person taking it!)

  4. I think its a Bonus for the garden - a lantern. I used to look at skips when I lived in Glasgow and had an allotment plot, but these days I rarely do, as the commute home is long.

    1. I'm worried it'll go rusty if I put it outside in the garden, it might end up being a conservatory lantern though! :)
