Peacocks, Peahens, Chickpeas and Powis Castle....

I had a lovely day out today with Mum going round the charity shops in Welshpool and visiting Powis Castle, which is pretty much my favourite National Trust property.  The most exciting thing today was that there was a baby peacock scampering about.  I think baby peacocks should be called chickpeas, they are cute...

We were also treated to the sight of a deer and her baby while we had our picnic, although I didn't have my big camera with me so I could only take a very fuzzy photo!

The gardens were also very pretty, although it was too hot to walk very far...

Hope you've all been enjoying this lovely weather!

  2. WOW... You live in an amazing area! It's very beautiful, you're very blessed, I always get my peacocks confused, isn't it the boy that is the most impressive and beautiful? That big one looks gorgeous to me, but it's so colorful... was that mom or dad? And yes... Chickpeas... Cute!

    1. The Dad is the one with the big, beautiful tail. Lady peahens are browner and haven't got the big tail (Mummy peahen in the top 2 photos with her baby, Daddy peacock top left in the 3rd photocollage - off eating seed while mummy looks after the chickpea!)

I agree, I am soo lucky to live somewhere so pretty! :)

  3. How lovely, must go there again soon.
Your reference to chickpeas prompts me to tell you about mine - I planted some after reading a post of yours and they are growing well with some 'pods' on them. Not sure how to cook them, but I will grow these again just for ornamental purposes, they look lovely in a hanging basket trailing over the sides.

    1. Glad to hear your chickpeas are growing well, ours are too!

Have looked up in my book what to do with the chickpeas - says to harvest when they pods seem full and are still fresh and green, cook whole pods in simmering water for 2-3 mins, or pan roast whole pods on high heat for 2 mins - remove chickpeas from pods before eating.

    1. I love it too, especially the library (although not organised alphabetically or by Dewey Decimal system, which offends my inner-librarian!)and all the gorgeous murals on the walls.
