There's lots of pretty and colourful graffiti in Rio, these photos are of street art in the Santa Teresa area.
There was lots of amazing street art in the city centre, but I didn't take photos. As I was in Rio during a time of strikes and protests and I obviously look like a foreigner, I took the advice of my friend's Brazilian husband and didn't take my camera out on the street. I'm not normally nervous about that kind of thing (I always think I'm just as likely to get mugged in my home town as in a foreign city), I don't feel like anything bad would have happened to me if I had been overly touristy, but I didn't want to take the risk.
This isn't street art, but a little painting my friend did for me the morning before I left.
Isn't she so clever. It only took her about an hour!

That painting is a perfect souvenir, And what an amazing destination to have traveled to!! Would you say that it's a safe place to travel? I love the street art as well, I have to say it's one of the things that I also photograph when I travel. I'm sorry I haven't visited more often, I am trying to do a million things including finish up my never ending bachelors degree and it's taking forever, I have neglected my own blog quite a bit as well... it's a shame there aren't more hours in a day! :)

DeleteIn terms of safety I'd say I didn't feel in danger during my stay, but I didn't find Rio a comfortable city to be in, perhaps it was more the noise, pollution, dirt as well as the fact that people (at home and in Rio) kept telling me how dangerous it is! I stayed with friends so they kept me out of trouble. Although my friend had her bag and phone snatched after I had gone home. I definitely felt a lot safer because I wasn't on my own and was with people who know the area!
i love nice street art and graffiti - always perks up an area where there's too much of serious or bleak architecture. what an experience to go to Rio in dangerous circumstances!
ReplyDeleteWell, I don't think it was that dangerous, but it was interesting because I learnt a lot about politics and the reasons why people were striking and rioting!
