My homegrown harvest, July 2017.

This has been a month of many courgettes!

I need to sort my timings out for next year, and plan to do more successional  sowing, I've run out of lettuce and had the last of my peas, and didn't sow any more to replace them!

I've had loads of courgettes however, I'm at the taking-courgettes-to-work-and-passing-them-off-to-my-colleagues stage of courgette glut.

I had a gorgeous head of garlic, just from a clove of supermarket garlic I planted - it was so lovely and fresh.

I've picked all my broad beans and the start of the borlotto beans, I'm not waiting for them to dry, I'll eat them fresh.

The rats tail radish has been prolific, unfortunately neither of us are keen on the seed pods, either raw or cooked.  They may be heading compostwards!  The flowers on the plants have attracted loads of hoverflies into the garden, so I might grow it again next year just for the insects.

There's been a bit more that I didn't photograph, but not much.  We've had a few blueberries, but the blackbird has had more!  And my autumn bliss raspberries have produced a few berries too.  I'm not sure why, you can leave a cane of autumn rasps to over winter, then it'll fruit earlier in the summer, but I cut all my canes to the ground.  Whatever the reason the raspberries I've had have been so delicious, like sweeties.

How are your gardens?  Are you harvesting anything exciting?

  1. You've done great! Growing your own is such a good feeling. I've just returned from holiday to some courgettes and we have far too many spring onions now (must google what I can do with them). The carrots are always well used here and our strawberries were almost none existent. Like you, I should maybe concern myself more with timings, but I'm just thrilled to bits we have some produce at all. X

    1. That sounds like an excellent garden haul! I can never get spring onions to grow in my garden, lucky you to have so many!

  2. I really like courgettes but Andy REALLY dislikes them so I rarely cook them these days. I do have a recipe for a delicious courgette cake, so I might bake one soon. Andy will never know.
I've had spring onions and lettuce recently. My Cucamelons are coming along nicely, I think I'll be able to try my first one this weekend. I plan to grow more next year, and to definitely do some successional sowing, I got used to having lovely fresh lettuce to eat, and then had to wait weeks for more to grow (after slugs ruined a batch).
You seem to be doing really well. I just love eating tings I've grown myself, it feels so good.

    1. I'm missing home grown lettuce, just willing my new seedlings to grow, I'll be more organised next year!
You've reminded me that I have a recipe somewhere for chocolate courgette cake - I must find it!
