Scary Plastic Statistics...

I just came across this on Easy Eco to Go blog and it gave me the shivers, I knew we had a too much plastic problem but I can't believe it's so much, it actaully makes me feel sick!  So I thought I'd share it with you...

  1. "Every Piece of Plastic Ever Made Still Exists Today"

"All This Plastic Travels to Our Oceans"

Both of these statements are utterly false.

Plastic is often burned as a disposal option, thereby destroying. Plastic is also destroyed when exposed to sunlight and air. Yes, it breaks down into small pieces, those pieces (which continue to break down), when added together are less than what the original part was. So no, all the plastic ever made does not still exist.

And as for all of traveling to the oceans? What about all the materials that are landfilled or incinerated? Those aren't going anywhere near the ocean.

Given these simple lies, it makes the question the legitimacy of the rest of the video.

  3. Hi John, thanks for visiting my blog and for your thoughts on this...while I agree that some of the statements are a little far fetched and probably could have benefitted from some re-phrasing (eg. 'most of the plastic ever made still exists today) I do still think that the overall message of the video, that we are using too much plastic, is relevant and important.

    Thanks for visiting Danda :D :D :D
