My homegrown harvest, February 2016.

I last shared my homegrown harvest last October, but I've been eating some things from the garden this month so here they are,

I planted onions and garlic close together in my front garden raised bed with the intention of pulling some of both up early to eat, the ones that are left will have more room now to grow nice and big (I hope!).  The young garlic is really garlicky and the onions are just like spring onions.

I grew a chili pepper last year called Little Elf, the 2 chilies it produced have finally ripened.  The skittle is included for size reference, they're pretty tiny!

I've been picking the swiss chard and perpetual spinach I planted last summer, and eating it all winter.

My garden, January 2016.

I've been making an effort to pop out into the garden for 20 minutes or so every time the weather is nice enough to.  I've been doing a lot of weeding, especially of the gravel on the driveway!

I've weeded the bed down the side of the house and then covered all the bare soil with fallen leaves I raked off the lawn.  I read somewhere (I can't remember where!) about using fallen leaves as a mulch over winter, to protect bare soil from getting too weedy and to add nutrients to the soil as they break down.  I'm giving it a try this year, I'm all for free soil improvement!

I'm still picking home grown rainbow chard and spinach beet, as well as spring onions and some herbs, which I'm pretty happy about.

My front garden raised bed seems to be doing well.

My bulbs are popping up, I've got daffodils, crocus and tulips.

Here's the garden, views from each end.  I have it in my head to paint the green fence white once the weather's drier, I think it'll really brighten up the garden and I can't bear to look at the multi-tone green fence for another year!

There are lots of flowers still in bloom, and lots of plants seem to be putting out their spring buds already.  I'm a bit worried.  Is this global warming?  I have my fingers crossed that a frost won't come along and kill all the plants, or if it does then they manage to grow back!

My garden harvest, October 2015.

I've picked some exciting veggies from my garden this month!

FINALLY some tomatoes!  And my favourite mini-pop sweetcorn.  Home grown spring onions are the best, sooo much nicer than shop bought ones!

The spinach beet and rainbow chard are still growing well.

And even more tomatoes!

My garden, October 2015.

It's been feeling very autumnal this month, and to be honest I've neglected the garden a bit because it's been chilly and because I've been super busy!

I'm really happy with my raised bed (I filled it using the lasagna method!).  I've planted garlic and onion sets, and leek, rainbow chard and spinach beet from seed, and they've all sprouted and they're growing!   I planted some strawberry plants down the edges too.

My great excitement has been this sunflower head.  I harvested a few seeds for myself, to plant next year, then hung the head up with some string on the fence.  I meant it to be a bird feeder, but it's been attracting my furry friends too!

Talking of seed heads, did you know snapdragon seed heads look like little skulls? 

I don't want to speak too soon, but there's a courgette growing here that hasn't been eaten by a slug!!!!! (yet!)

I planted some wildflower seeds and butterfly friendly seeds in the side garden, this is the only thing that's grown from those seeds.  I think it's nigella, it's really pretty!

And here's the whole garden.  It needs some love this month, and possibly a water, it hasn't rained for ages!  I'll get round to that next week, this week is crazy (extra work, 2 birthdays, a wedding, naming ceremony and a friend visting!  Eeep!).

This is the garden from another angle.  One day it'll be a lovely patio area with a pizza oven.  For now, it's a mess, with some pots of herbs and tomatoes.

My Garden Harvest, September 2015.

I've had a few little bits of harvest from my garden this month, 

Mostly little handfuls of raspberries and a few spring onions,

The last of the broad beans, the first of my tomatoes.  The tomatoes aren't even nice though, they taste really bland.  Bad summer for tomatoes I think.  The apple came from next doors' apple tree, that hangs over into my garden!

I've had loads of leaves from my rainbow chard and spinach beet.

And lots of yummy raspberries!

My Garden Harvest, August 2015.

My little garden has done a bit better this month!

My first raspberries!  These are the first raspberries I've ever eaten that didn't need sugar on them, they're sweet and delicious just as they are.

The variety is Autumn Bliss and I'll definitely be buying some more plants!

This is my first ever homegrown spring onion.  It was so sweet and tasty.  I ate it in a vegan quesadilla. 

I picked my first spinach beet.  And I ate it in a stir fry!  And I've had lots more spinach beet and rainbow chard too.

I picked my first lot of broad beans, and made broad bean falafel, with home grown coriander too!

We have lots of other herbs ready for picking at the moment,  I've been putting lovely basil and thyme in homemade pasta sauces all month.

A naughty slug has eaten all of my courgettes, which I am most upset about!
